Manic, arrogant, sycophantic and sadistic, Basil Fawlty is the perfect vehicle for John Cleese’s comic brilliance. Basil is a much put-upon, hard-working hotel manager whose life is plagued by dead guests, hotel inspectors and riffraff. Of course his biggest headache is his 'little nest of vipers' — his nagging wife Sibyl (Prunella Scales). Together they run their hotel, Fawlty Towers, with a little help from the unflappable Polly (Connie Booth), and Manuel (Andrew Sachs), the trainee waiter from Barcelona with marginally more intelligence than a monkey. Everyone loves Fawlty Towers — except the poor, abused guests. Since that memorable mid 1970s evening when Basil first snarled and smarmed at his customers, it has become cult viewing in 61 countries world-wide, and has won 3 BAFTA awards.

Viewer Reviews

  • Where is Episode 6?

    By AcuteWatcher

Fawlty Towers is one of my all-time favorite TV shows. I bought both series a few years ago to have them available until I die. However, I was cheap and deleted all video files from my small NAS to provide space for critical files instead of expanding. Now, I have no access to Episode 6 of Series One, titled “The Germans,” within iCloud! This is NOT an isolated case. Many media files NO longer exist in Apple’s storage. I wonder why...

Truly fantastic in script and acting. All actors are worth remembering.
  • OMG! It's MY life!

    By Iggy81206

I bought this after reading some of the reviews, and watching the free previews available. In the first 5 minutes of "A Touch of Class", I was not only laughing so hard there were tears rolling down my face, but I realized with some measure of horror, that John Cleese's character is ME! I have known similar situations to happen in my own life. I have dealt with them with the same humourous vigor as he does. The performances are absolutely brilliant, as is the classic comedy of errors. I would love to give this 10 stars, and would if I were allowed. If you love British humour and don't buy this, then check yourself into the nearest loony-bin, for you must be mad.
  • Maybe the best sitcom of all time.

Cleese is brilliant. The writing and Comedic timing are flawless while bordering on impromptu. Never a dull moment.
