Based on Arthur C. Clarke’s revolutionary science fiction novel first published in 1953, "Childhood’s End" follows the peaceful alien invasion of Earth by the mysterious Overlords, whose arrival begins decades of apparent utopia under indirect alien rule, at the cost of human identity and culture. A story as relevant now as it was half-a-century ago, "Childhood’s End" illustrates a perspective of alien invasion never before seen onscreen, one in which the aliens are not here to conquer humanity but rather to grant humanity a better existence. But what is the meaning of a human life without struggle? What challenges are left when sickness, starvation, and even poverty have become distant memories? And what is the purpose of living when our children begin to evolve into beings that are beyond our comprehension? "Childhood’s End" examines the biggest questions of human existence and man’s place in the universe.

Viewer Reviews

  • Such a disappointment

    By Ronbo13

Such a disappointment. It missed all of the most important points from the book. It’s like they found a couple of scenes and said, “OMG We gotta do this.” It’s not like they thought “Exposition is boring so we gotta skip that stuff” because they had plenty of exposition. Just not the parts that actually mattered. Oh well. I’ve listened to the audio book about 6 times. I won’t be watching the show a second time though.
  • The Best Sci-Fi Show In a Very Long Time

    By Rino The Bouncer

The show is an absolute masterpiece. And I'm writing this while I'm rewatching it for the 9th time already. Pay no mind to any negative review. Watch it yourself and judge. It's epic!
  • Horrible

    By LucianaBR

Terribly acted and directed. Dialogue seems written by a 5 year old.
  • Clarke? I don't think so.

    By WLF579

I didn't mind the show much. It *was* somewhat reminiscent of Clarke's impersonal style. But it's a great stretch, and probably an insult, to attribute this to him. I'm sorry his estate sold these rights. And I hope that, if they sold any other rights to his works, that they didn't sell them to someone else who thinks they're a better writer than he was.
  • I waited a year to watch the last two epesodes, it was that bad..

    By juan ina million

If you read the Hugo and Nubula award winning novel, prepare to be disapointed. The movie has characters and plot lines that were not in the book, Stormgren is a corn farmer from Iowa, instead of a politician from Sweeden. And he has a wife and a dog and a tractor.. The kidnappers are Mexican (!..?) instead of Polish and instead of eating sandwiches and playing cards, they try to shoot Stormgren. No blind guy, no "Popet". No bull fight... And Wainwright commits suicide? And it was only 15 years, instead of 50.. Total Krapola.. Can I have my $9.99 back? I promise to delete these movies..
  • Best mini-series by far

    By Tyber-zan

This show really makes you question a lot of things, and very deeply. I encourage anyone to at least take a look at each episode.
  • Wheres my Money?!!!!!!!

    By TooDamnHonest21

Omg! I was so excited to watch this series after weeks of searching how to watch this for free! And i finally broke down and purchased this series that i heard so much about. I watched it. AND I REGRET EVERY SINGLE SECOND I SPENT WATCHING THAT LONG WINDED, NON SENSE MAKING, NO ACTION, TERRIBLE ENDING HAVING BULLCRAP THAT SHOULD BE CAST INTO A BLACKHOLE. NEVER HAVE A SEEN SOMETHING SO NICELY WRITTEN DISPLAYED LIKE A 2 YEAR OLD TRYING TO PAINT A PICASSO. I WISH I COULD HAVE MY MONEY BACK, MY TIME, AND MY EFFORT. I HOPE TAX PAYERS MONEY WASNT USED TO MAKE THIS. IM JUST EMBARRASSED. P.S The cast was great though. Great visuals. Had serious potential. But somehow you turned a basketball all star into a one leg ballerina. I was really let down.
  • Love it or hate it.

    By Hot_DogBreath

Like with cigarettes, you either smoke or don’t smoke. Most punters will either love this or hate it. Not many will sit on the middle of the fence over this one. I have not read the book, and let’s face it, not many books have ever been successfully translated to the big screen and have kept their integrity in place. So this is what you’re in for. First and foremost, it’s a science fiction drama. If you are after some sci-fi action, look elsewhere. I would even brand it a dark comedy. Popping out the far side of part 3, I couldn’t help but smirk a little over the final conclusion. A certain segment of viewers will take offence to the religious flavour which gets introduced at the end of part one and plays a major role for the rest of the show. I personally found the show very enjoyable and worth a few hours of my meagre life. They have thrown a few dollars at this show and the acting was acceptable.
  • Extreme Disappointment.

    By SCIFI Fan Oklahoma

So many things were wrong with this miniseries. To begin with, there was practically no action, or life, to this series. Someone here I think, compared it to Days of our Lives. Which is sadly accurate. The acting was terrible. Karellen looked so fake. I mean seriously, is it not 2016 technology at SyFy? And seriously, they have the audacity to charge $4.99 a part!? And ONLY a dollar less for the SD version! Which is the version I purchased. I only bought them all because I could spare the money at the time, and I wanted to see for myself how it was. After seeing the trailers, and because I have read other Arthur C. Clarke books, I expected something MUCH better. Now I seriously would like a refund. I don't care if they delete the episodes from my account. I would only expect such. I seriously hope to see a second attempt. One that is worth watching. Because this was basically trash.
