Disappointing ending to the Descendant franchise
By Kay7583
Descendants 3. The third movie of the descendants franchise. It is rare for a Disney Channel movie to hit a trilogy. In fact, the only other trilogy I can think of is High School Musical. Also, Rest In Peace Cameron Boyce. Will this be a grand ending to the descendants franchise, or will this franchise need to stay a trilogy.
The Plot:
Probably the most disappointing part of this movie was the bad script. Instead of going deep into the story of descendants, the film rather wants to just do a story of Audreyβs jealousy. Jealousy is not a good thing to have, but when you put it in a finale, it end with a disappointing result and reactions. To make things worse, with the writing, to makes the plot predictable and also have scenes that we really donβt need in there and have nothing to do with the story.Plus, some of the scenes here is just to reach the 100 minute mark. But, the story can have twists. The scene where Uma agrees to help Mal but for a price, and when Mal decides to open the barrier. But back onto the weak stuff, the scenes that are there to hit the 100 min mark donβt have anything to do with the story. Also, if you have a theory that the parents will return in this 3rd movie, forget it. We will never see the parents again in this franchise. The movie may have twists, but that gets overshadowed by the bad plot.
The Visuals:
Even with the bad script, at least the visuals are good. Sure Malβs dragon body may look cheap, which is not good. Plus there are no real new setting. Now onto the good stuff. Audreyβs musical number can get good with the visuals, like Malifacentβs staff and Audreyβs pink fog. Also, Malβs dragon can be creative and cool to look at. Plus, we get to see the Isle of the Lost one more time, and it stayed true to what it is. Plus, Auradon does look grand, and the when the people turn into stone, itβs kinda lame but it is some decent special effects. Also, I like the fact Mal gets a new hair cut and a costume every movie. Even with the problem, the visuals look grand and fun to look at and special effects are decent.
The Characters Personalityβs:
With a bad script comes bad characters. In this case, yes, for the most part. Mal is just the hero trying to save her home. The script doesnβt add new twists to Mal, which is bad because this is the finale. Also, forget about Malifacent. She is absolutely no where to be found, which couldβve built Malβs character. Uma does add a new light on her, helping Mal on her quest. But she had no reason to be in the 3rd film. Audreyβs character does build a little, even with the weak plot of her of being jealous, which is the weak part of the character. As for the rest, there are only just there because there in the 1st and 2nd film. Which is extremely disappointing considering Cameron Boyceβs death and final project. And Carlos barley serves anything to the plot. Evie may seem more like a character, but not much of a character. Uma and Audrey May have a little bit more on their character, but the rest are there just because there in the first film, or 2nd. It doesnβt help that the new characters serve absolutely NOTHING.
With how this ended up, I think thereβs a reason Disney Channel doesnβt make barely any trilogy. Descendants 3 is a disappointing ending to this popular franchise. Even with good visuals, the script is horrible and most of the characters are really weak. If your a fan of the Descendants franchise, you could watch it, but prepared for disappointment. If your not a fan, this wonβt change your mind. This may escaped from being bad, and 2 stars equal bad, but this trilogy should stay a trilogy.
