On board the Jupiter mining ship Red Dwarf, Dave Lister ranks 169 out of 169, lower than the Skutters, the maintenance robots. His boss/room-mate is Arnold Rimmer, an obsessive, incompetent, nerdy smeghead who has failed his astro-navigation exam 16 times and sews name tags in his ship-issue condoms. They are in charge of the vending machines. Lister has recently been dumped by officer Kristine Kochanski but is still in love with her. By the end of the first episode, all the crew except Lister are dead from a radiation leak caused by a badly sealed Drive plate. The rest of the series takes place in the future, and it’s all downhill from here on. Aimlessly roaming the universe, this ramshackle crew of spacebums and losers encounters alien pods, mutated viruses, and distorted time. And if that doesn’t keep Lister amused, there is always the question of why Rimmer’s last words were "gazpacho soup."

Viewer Reviews

  • Almost perfect

    By UndeadPup

I really love this show. However, when they released "Red Dwarf Remastered" it was terrible. Happy to see that this version IS NOT the "remastered" version with the extra skutters and people which look totally bad. HOWEVER, some things have been changed in this iTunes version. For example, in episode 1 the funeral sounds were still changed from the original. In this iTunes version George's funeral does not make a "toilet flushing" sound when his ashes are launched into space. And the song he requested was originally "See ya later alligator" and that is not the song in the iTunes version.
  • Gave up after 10 minutes

I gave up after 10 minutes. The start was silly (but not in a clever way) and boring. I am glad I only bought one episode.
  • Amazing

Red Dwarf is one of the most brilliant shows ever to come to the Sci-fi genre. It's outrageously funny and will not disappoint. It may be a little out of the ordinary but thats just part of the shows magic. The only bad thing about Red Dwarf is that the series and episodes are so short, plus you'll go around saying smeg to everyone. One of my all time favorite shows, trust me, you'll love it!
  • Great Series

One of the best from across the pond. one of the best lines from this series "death isn't the handicap it use to be" .
  • Best show ever!

I love Red Dwarf. One of the best sci-fi shows ever. Anyone know why the music was changed at George's funeral? Should have been " see ya later alligator."
  • Woot!

    Smegging brilliant!
  • The longest running sci-fi comedy

    By Major David

You know, just when I’m thinking that I-Tunes is trying to take the title of ‘The MP3 Website of Mediocrity’ they suddenly turn around and do something smart (which is still too rare). Red Dwarf is one of the greatest (and longest running) science fiction comedies that ran from the late 80’s to the end of the 90’s. It’s also one of only a handful of Science Fiction Comedies and when you consider that all attempts at making a sci-fi comedy have met with dismal failure within the first season you’ll quickly realize that Red Dwarf is something of an oddity. The characters all unfold slowly for the first season but rapidly gain momentum after that with storylines and plot twists that are the stuff of legends. I only wish they kept the show going because it was really quite good. One word of advice though, you’ll really need to see the first few episodes of the first season before you’ll fully understand the subsequent seasons and shows.

I love all the red dwarf series, they are hilarious and great, but you have to get some of the jokes. Not meant for younger people.
