A dark psychological crime drama starring Idris Elba as Luther, a detective struggling with his own terrible demons, who might well be just as dangerous as the depraved murderers he hunts. On a moral crusade, too often with only his convictions for company, John Luther is a brilliant but deeply troubled man, a philosophical cop possessed by the insoluble problem of evil and justice in a Godless world. Luther shines a light where others fear to tread, into the hearts and minds of psychopaths and killers, and the shadowy spaces of his own soul.

  • Great...so far.

I'm a big fan of The Wire and Idris Elba was one of my favorite characters on that show. I'm not big on these shows from across the pond with all the different accents. But this is a pretty good show. You just have to go into it with an open mind, something I could not have done 5 years ago. Give this a try.
  • To all Americans..

    By Photag216

To all my fellow Americans out there, I used to absolutely hate british TV shows. There was just something about them that made them 'feel' different than US shows, and frankly I couldn't really relate to the British stuff. But then I saw "Sherlock" and I must say, it was a fantastic TV show. It 'feels' just like an American movie. It's sooo well done. Anyway, now after watching and loving Sherlock, I found "Luther." This is another amazing British TV show. Yes, they have funny accents (no offense) to us, and it has a very slight different feel then most US shows, but this show really is very good. I've only seen the very first episode, but I can tell this is really going to be a fantastic show. Luther seems very American. Besides his accent, he looks, acts, feels very American. I know I've only seen the very first episode, but I was compelled to write this review because of how much I liked it. It's the guy from the movie with the giant monsters (sorry I can't remember what it's called right now..), where the world builds robots called "jaegers" to fight the giant monsters to save the world.. Anyway, he played the commanding officer in the battle against the monsters. He is really cool looking, a fantastic actor, and if I do say so myself..SUPER badazz!! Give this one a shot, if you don't like the very first episode, then contact me and yell at me. I doubt you will though.. :)
  • Simply the best.

I love The Wire, Sherlock, House, etc. This show has the best parts of all of them. Luther has the mind of House, the drive of McNulty, the intuition of Holmes himself, and personal demons like you have never seen. And that’s before you get to Alice who continues to stun me. Absolutely love this show. It is a masterpiece for all involved from the writers to the actors to the film crew. It’s very near perfect.
  • Great Characters in Great Plots

    By LRLee

Luther and Alice are amongst the most memorable characters I've come across. The plots are surprising, intriguing, and thrilling. A great mix of thoughtfulness and flat out violence. Highly recommended. Only seen seasons 1 and 2 so far. Hope there's more than just Season 3.
  • The Psycho red head-

    By Bgbdbrd

...is the "MacGuffin" for this whole show... I don't believe this Luther character would allow her to continue. She would either be gone, or he would... this weird kind of symbiotic thing is hard for me to swallow...
  • Surprise!

Wasn't too sure...bought one episode and now I'm hooked. Well done!
  • Luther

    By The Lovely Bones

I watchd season two before I watched season one. If you love CSI and Law and Order as I do, then you'll love this show. Luther offers a different take on detective work with less focus on the crime and seen and politics - as so often you find in shows on ABC in America. Oh and to boot, this show has actors that look like everyday people and that draws you into the plot more so being side tracked by someone unrealistic beauty. I can't wait for more. Oh lastly, I hope British TV shows don't get cut off the air like American shows after watching one season because it only got 5mil viewers.
  • Wow

  • What was I waiting for...

I can't believe that iTunes had to offer the first episode for free for me to be interested in this show. I already have a great appreciation for Idris Elba, but my gosh this is amazing. If you like anything that remotely resembles brilliance on the small screen, watch this series. Amazing…
