How to Use Subtitles for the Big History Videos

  1. Move the subtitle files into the same folder as your video files.

  2. Rename the subtitle files to exactly the same name as your video files. e.g. Big History_Episode_1.mp4 and Big History_.srt.

  3. Open the Big History video in VLC or your media player. The subtitles will automatically appear in the video. If it does not, check if the Big History srt files are correctly named, then close and restart your video player.

  • Great Story but cloned content

    By Thailand-Amulets

The whole idea of Big History is a very educative and insightful perspective on the Evolution of things in this Universe, seen through the evolution of Human Civilisation. Unfortunately after collecting a lot of History Channel Documentaries, i find that every series from Ancient Alines through Big History to America's Book of Secrets, is just reusing and rehashing the same 30 video footage clip[s opf the spartans, a woman sowing grain, farmers in furs, romans, persians on chariots.. and even use the same footage of people commenting that are found in almost every episode of every series. Its like they are using the same 5 building blocks to resell and rehash their video footage stock library and rentabilitize their content to maximum. Unfortunately once you collect more than 30 history channel shows, you begin noticing 'hey this was in the other 15 documentaries too! I already saw most scene cuts in this series in other previous shows.. make some new footage already! stop being stingy and rehashing the same film stock footage
  • Season 2

Will there be a 2nd season? I use this series along with "Mankind: The Story of All of Us” to teach a media based adult English as a Second Language class listening and seeking class. Great content makes the students think and keeps the conversation going.
  • Good but could be better.

A great series in premise and there is a lot of potential for it. Sadly it seems to follow the history channel's tendancy to overpromote itself, over simplify and sacrifice interesting history in the name of sensationalism. Much of the information it has to offer is fantasic and if the show was more about the actual information connected using the "big history" philosophy rather than championing how big history is the revolutionary method that found it, it would be an excellent program. I hope the execution improves as the show continues and that rather than patronizing its viewers by making a 20 minute show out of 3 minutes of information the program spends its time on actually building the connections it professes to master.
