At the heart of the ER's controlled chaos is Residency Director Dr. Leanne Rorish (Academy Award winner Marcia Gay Harden), renowned for successfully performing high-risk procedures in Center Stage, the trauma area reserved for the most critical cases. Her four new first-year residents are Christa Lorenson (Bonnie Somerville), Malaya Pineda (Melanie Kannokada), Mario Savetti (Benjamin Hollingsworth) and Angus Leighton (Harry M. Ford). Leanne's confidante, Jesse Sallander (Luis Guzman), is an amiable seen-it-all senior nurse who manages the residents. Also working in the ER is Dr. Neal Hudson (Raza Jaffrey), an excellent physician who sometimes disagrees with Leanne's "cowboy" approach, and Dr. Rollie Guthrie (William Allen Young), the energetic, longest-serving attending. In Center Stage, life is measured in seconds, and these heroic doctors and nurses operate with speed and skill within an overwhelmed system to treat the crowds of people who are often there for one of two reasons: to die or to receive a life-saving miracle.

    I love how all the moral questions the show deals with live in the grey area between right and wrong. You can see how the doctors would question their own actions because the right answers are not always that clear.

    Oh... Man, this is great! I never thought an ER production could attain this level of clinical realism. Real procedures using actual protocols... perhaps a little bit faster than real life, but the stories and the science go perfectly along.

    How good is this series? Well, I watch a lot of programs and this is the first time I’ve felt compelled to write a review. Code Black is exceptional. It has smarts and it has heart. It is really well cast and the acting is excellent. The writing, too, is about as good as you can get, especially for medical shows. I hope the series enjoys many seasons. Congratulations to the creators, writers, actors and crew for such a great production!

    Excellent cast really shows the true life of the ER as a nurse I can't find fault with a thing. Great to see the English actor from MI5 he is so good in this role .This series is going to be a big winner and has a great future thank you writers,actors and crew keep up the great work.review # 13 about a gay twist to this show is unacceptable open your eyes we are all human and equal don't be so narrow minded please !!! Oh and bye no loss there !

    As someone who's spent their fair share of time in hospitals it's nice to finally see a medical show that captures more of what a hospital is really like; not newly renovated, shiny and with all the latest high-tech gear. Really like the characters and love Marcia Gay Harden in this too! Fingers crossed for a Season 2 pick up!!!!
