As she relocates her brood to a house in the Greek sun, the Durrells face a whole new set of challenges as they meet new friends, rivals, lovers--and animals.

    Where's the 2nd season already?
  • Enjoyable with one exception

I have a problem with the youngest child running around all over the island and gathering up as many species of animals he can find...then the animals are held in captivity (undernourished). IN one episode the boy struggles with two baby owlets starving, should not have been removed from the owl nest. A huge white pelican is held in a kennel like a dog.
  • Charming.

Aside from the eclectic haphazard morals, the first episode was refreshing. The scenery is gorgeous even (and especially) contrasted with the intentional shabbiness of low-rent Corfu, the characters are differentiated and interesting, the little boy is sweet, and the woman is believable. I love the ambulatory pace of the dialogue and action, not too slow and not too fast, just like you would expect on a Greek island in the 1930's. There are no stereotypical characters. The author is content to develop the plot and characters carefully and the humor is pleasant. I found myself smiling and enjoying the author's insight and writing. I bought one episode to see if it would be suitable and I am now eager to purchase the next episode. It is such a joy to be able to watch a period show without having to turn it off due to offensive, dark or sexual scenes. While it isn't James Herriot, it is still absolutely delightful and inoffensive (so far). I'm not sure why it is rated TV-14 except for the salty sailor talk of one short-term character and the determination of the older son to find his long-widowed mother a partner. If that is the extent of the TV-14 rating, this looks like a very promising series.
