Globally renowned actor Rowan Atkinson stars as Maigret in these two gripping crime stories set in 1950s Paris. In Maigret Sets a Trap, a serial killer is targeting women in the seedy district of Montmartre. With no leads and the newspapers rife with speculation, all focus is on Chief Superintendent Maigret. The second film, Maigret’s Dead Man, focuses on the murder of a gambler with connections to a brutal gang from Czechoslovakia.

Viewer Reviews

  • An amazing turnaround for Mr. Atkinson!

    By BanditXIII

Now that I am impressed that Rowan Atkinson can do so well with a role that is far away from comedy, I can say that he’s a great actor!
  • Why TV was invented

Excellent casting. Excellent writing and plots. Excellent sets. Mix all that together and you have one hell of a show. That’s what this entire series is (all 4 episodes). I was blown away by the quality and subsequently upset and depressed over the cancellation. It absolutely makes no sense to cancel something of those qualities with this popularity. If Apple is smart they will buy the rights and continue this series. There is an incredible amount of source material to work with and Rowan has stated that he is a fan of the books.
  • Rowan nails it!

    By easiereddie

I have been a fan of his comedy for years, but this shows a side of Rowan that I never expected to see. He is a dramic actor, I have checked out Maigret's series from the past and I think Rowan has captured the character like no other. Maigret is a thinking Detective, he keeps most of his thoughts inside himself, which makes the viewer think as well. Which some people may not like. I hope you will give this series a chance and watch it, even if you have never been a Rowan fan. I also hope they will make more of them. Rowan has a character that reminds me of other great detective series, such as Perot with David Suchet, Basil Rathbones as Sherlock Holmes,.... Rowan nailed it and for me there will be no other Maigret!
  • Incredible !

  • Brilliant

I absolutely love this series and Rowan Atkinson is doing a wonderful job!
  • What a great show

What a great show, why aren't there more episodes?
  • Much surprise, here

    By thedemondog

I was somewhat hesitant to buy this due the presence of Rowan Atkinson. Most of what he has done I find to be on the horrific side. The only argument with him, here, however, is that he is probably too small to fit with Simenon's descriptives of Maigret, and of that who really cares in any case. Despite the liberties with the book, as are always the case, I thought it quite well done. (BTW: Plots are neither slow nor quick, the action is fine, however)
  • Slow Plot

    By Mission Accomplished

I'm sure they saved money by filming in Budapest but it would have been nice if they had included some B roll of Paris. Many of us enjoy the slowly evolving plots many British murder mysteries have because we get to see beautifully filmed landscapes and architecture. That isn't the case with this show. The 1990s version of Maigret is better.
