How to Download and Use Subtitles for the Schoolhouse Rock, Vol. 1 Videos

First of all, you will need to download the Schoolhouse Rock, Vol. 1 videos.
You can do so on either iTunes or   Amazon Prime
When you are done downloading the Videos, follow the processes below to Add the subtitle file to your Schoolhouse Rock, Vol. 1 videos

Step 1: Download the appropriate subtitle file.

You can get the .Srt subtitle files for each episode in Schoolhouse Rock, Vol. 1 by following the "Get Subtitle" Link beside every Episode above. You will be taken to a page where you can now select the appropriate subtitle file for your downloaded episode.
Alternatively, you can use the "Mirror 2" link if the first does not work for you!

Step 2: Adding Subtitles to Your VLC Player

To Add Subtitle files to your VLC Player, follow these steps accordingly:
1. Move the subtitle file into the same folder as your video file.
2. Rename the subtitle file with exactly the same name as your video file, so you have two files like this: Schoolhouse Rock, Vol. 1_Episode_1.avi and Schoolhouse Rock, Vol. 1_Episode_1.srt.

3. Play your video in VLC. You should now see subtitles appear over your movie. If you don’t, double check the .srt file is correctly named, then close and restart VLC before playing again..

Step 3: Adding subtitles to a video on YouTube or other Streaming services:

1. Download the .srt file from above.
2. Upload your video to YouTube. When configuring your upload, click “Captions”.
3. Click “Add a Caption Track” and browse to select your .srt file.
4. Select the language from the drop-down, and make sure “Caption file” is selected, not “Transcript file”.
5. Upload the .srt file.
6. Done!
. 7. Clicking the “CC” icon in the YouTube player turns the subtitles on.

  • No sensible order of episodes

To openly oppose some reviewers, my kids are now 6 and 8 and have loved these videos for a few years. I have the Special 30th Anniversary Edition DVD set that includes 46 episodes. ThisDVD set has all of these episodes actually placed in a very logical order. The original episodes from the 70s are grouped into logical series called Grammar Rock, Multiplication Rock, America Rock, and Science Rock. There is also an additional group of episodes from the 90s called Money Rock. Now in digital format on iTunes, there are now 3 volumes sold BUT there is no logical learning order. You cannot show your kids Multiplication Rock (which my kids still love) starting with the number 0, then 2, then 3, then 4, etc. like they can watch on the DVD. Nor can they sit down and watch all the grammar episodes together. To me this does make sense, EXCEPT possibly from a seller’s view of mashing them all together to get nostalgic buyers to purchase all three volumes to get their favorites that have been strategically dispersed among the volumes. As much as I love these videos, I will have to stick with my original DVD set. The slogan to Schoolhouse Rock has always been “Knowledge is Power”. Learning is easier, and lessons are more powerful when the knowledge is grouped together.

$0.99 cents per episode is a good deal. Great shows. But why leave a “that is to expensive” on TV shows or song album on the store. I can understand complaints about you can only rent a movie or you have to buy the whole album (I have done it) but really if your going to EVERY SINGLE ONE just to complain about prices... you got to learn one thing. JUST DON’T GET IT!!! No need to leave complaining all because you have never liked it on TV. I don’t feel any sympathy that is too expensive for you just Because you can’t expect prices to be always cheap for you cheapskates for TV shows and music.

Hey this couldn't have been more memorable when it comes to music and education all at once. We need stuff like this now considering the fact that education is needed at a time when kids are not going to school as often.

Those ef us who grew up in the 70's quickly notice thatThe Four Legged Zoo and I've Got Six are missing. Then need to be added to the available downloads. Also it would have been better if the volumes were broken up as the packages were originally introduced i.e. Multiplication Rock, Grammar Rock, America Rock, etc. The School House Rock Name came later. My 2.5 year old son loves Three Is a Magic Number and Interjections. I myself learned the Preamble to the Constitution watching on Saturday mornings and had it memorized by 4th grade.

We homeschool our son (April 2010) and he loves watching these when he gets done his work early. He has even started singing along with his favorites. I do think the price is a little high for how short the episodes are.
