Based on Jim Butcher's best-selling novels, "The Dresden Files" chronicles the cases of no ordinary detective. Harry Dresden (Paul Blackthorne) is a wizard, the only one listed in the Chicago phone book. He's got a handle on the crimes that can't be solved by anyone else. Paranormal? No problem. Dresden deals in all matters of supernatural threats. If you need a little hocus pocus or someother worldly advice, Dresden's your man.

  • Just read the books

Most of the time, adaptations of book series cut things for time or change things that might not work as well in the medium. Other times, they make absolutely bizarre choices that causes the creator to cut ties with the producers of the show/movie. The Dresden Files is one of the latter situations. You're better off reading the book series if you're interested, and I'm saying that knowing the first three books aren't the greatest. The show is just that bad.

i'm late to the game. just read a couple books in the D files series and was pretty grossed out by all the glaring misogyny. they do not hold up to the test of time, a whopping 19 years after the release of the first novel. what i'm trying to say is that the source material this show is based on is already pretty bad. so what they've done here is go from bad to worse. i love a wizard so i wanted to like this and was hoping the show would get rid of some of what was wrong with the books, but the dialogue is laughable. and even though the show aired in 2007, the styling seems very 90's to me.
  • One of the Best SyFy Television Shows

I actually bought it through Amazon Prime because iTunes store did not have it. I would have liked to have seen another season of the Dresden Files. Entertaining and I liked the concept of an adult wizard.

  • Good Start

A better series than most on sci-fi. Good production, script, acting, etc. They should have given it more time to catch on or another network could have picked it up. Hopefully, it will be rebooted in the future although I do like the actors in this one. It may have been retooled too much, but for a tv series that’s expected. It’s just upsetting that some trashy shows get renewed every year and something of good quality doesn’t get the chance it deserves. That’s mainly the fault of peak tv where audiences are shrinking for individual programs due to too much product. And shrinking profit margins.
  • Hard-nosed purists of either Dresden or Chicago should find other entertainment

This series is a joy, when put in proper context. No, it’s not like Jim Butcher’s novels. (Many changes were made, small and large, that overtly render this a completely different narrative version about a freelance wizard named Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden.) But at a time when the genre of urban horror/fantasy was still dominated through the Hogwarts-sized lens, this series tried to exploit that trend by using an up-and-coming novel series with a flagrantly American twist. For those of us who live in and around Chicago, the use of Vancouver and spotty B-roll of actual Chicagoland landmarks renders the series as a kind of genuinely delightful farce. Such is the nature of mid-budget TV. When it comes down to it, though, the heart of Butcher’s hard-boiled spellslinger is there. Especially where this series stays dedicated to giving (capital “m”) Magic real reasons and mechanics and brief, but sensible explanations. If nothing else, this series should be treated as a kind of slightly inaccurate, now retconned filler for all those cases Dresden clearly took when the novels weren’t happening. Because that’s ultimately how these mostly self-contained episodes shine best where Harry is concerned.
