The date: 2369. After 60 years, war-torn Bajor finally wins its freedom from a brutal occupation by Cardassia. Weak but wary, Bajor's new provisional government invites Starfleet to oversee and defend an old Cardassian mining station in orbit. In hopes that aiding Bajor will one day lead to its joining the Federation, Starfleet assigns Commander Benjamin Sisko to head the station, now dubbed Deep Space Nine. A single father still bitter over the loss of his wife in battle, Sisko is not happy about the mission — until he discovers a stable nearby wormhole to the distant Gamma Quadrant and meets its builders, the aliens worshipped by Bajorans as "The Prophets." Overnight, the station becomes a strategic hub of commerce and exploration where Sisko and his crew must help heal Bajor, keep Cardassia at bay, and handle whatever unknowns might be lurking just beyond the wormhole.

Love this Star Trek series...just wish it came in HD. I won't buy unti it comes in HD.
• Best Star Trek since the original

By Hansz

Sisko is the closest CAPT. to Kirk of all. Deep story lines and I love that the show is one big arc. BTW, When will we get the remastered hi def treatment. I'll buy all seasons when that happens.
• I love all the Star Trek series.

When will all the series be available in HD?
• Not so deep

The least successful of the Star Trek spinoffs, I think. They tried to make it more mature by having less kiss kiss bang bang, but the space station setting is pretty anti-Star Trek, don't you think? If Picard's Enterprise is often too much like a corporate boardroom in space, this thing is too often like Deep Space Mall. It's just boring. Focusing on characters instead of action would be fine if so many of the characters -- Quark, Odo, the doctor, Dax, the prissy tailor, Sisko's son -- weren't so weak and/or just annoying. And then there's Sisko. Avery Brooks is even more stiff and mannered than Captain Janeway. Don't know what acting school he attended, but I sure wish they didn't teach him to OVER-ar-TICK-u-late EV-ery line he SPEAKS. It GETS really tired AFTER a WHILE. I'm a scifi junkie so I've watched most of the episodes, but I wasn't often very happy with them. It's nowhere near as good as TNG, less interesting than Voyager, and even the unfairly dissed Enterprise is better.
• good series

love DS9............... but they need to bring star trek the next generation to itunes
• Slow burn leads to great later seasons

By warrior-monk

Season one (and two for that matter) is by far DS9's weakest yet its completely forgivable as it was laying a very complex groundwork that paid off huge from season 3 on when you begin to appreciate what seemed trivial or dull previously. While never reaching the very peaks of TNG (Best of Both Worlds, Inner Light) it is by far a much more consistent show with characters that evolved and changed, plots and ideas that developed all wrapped in a complex mythology that reached beyond your standard Trek experience. It benefited greatly from not having to go throw the very rough growing pains TNG did, came right at the explosion of CGI in the early nineties so it never had a hockey feel it and and joined several shows that were beginning the serialization of genre TV much like the X-files. Grabbing a hold of all three it really leaped ahead to become Trek's most constantly great show that continues to shine through as the most easily rewatchable Trek.
• What happened to ST:TNG?

By alphaprg

I see all the ST series, but not TNG series. I know the series started in the late 80s, but it did run through the early 90s. Actually, DS9 was supposed to take over TNG series as it was winding down.
• More, Please!

By Big JonK

This is a great start, but how about the other 2 seasons of DS9 all of TNG
• Star Trek Next Generation on iTunes?

By Ecclectic Maester

I'm glad that Deep Space Nine, Voyager, Enterprise, and the Original Series is on iTunes, but where's Star Trek: Next Generation? It had many great episodes!
