Explore the past and present of the rough-and-tumble logging industry in the first-ever nonfiction series about the treacherous life of Pacific Northwest timber cutters, Ax Men. For more than a hundred years, larger-than-life characters, many of whom are members of logging families that go back to the time when the West was being settled, have spent their days among towering trees and powerful machines, and their nights in outposts far from the comforts of civilization. Snapped cables, runaway logs, and treacherous machinery are among the many dangers that threaten their lives and safety today. Follow four logging crews through a season in the remote forests of northwest Oregon and see how — plagued by mechanical failures, relentless weather, and violent and unpredictable terrain — these men risk their lives every day in a constant struggle of man versus nature.

This is the cause of all the problems of global warming (tornadoes, hurricanes, floods) the trees are very important and this guys think that they are powerful until one day the mother earth take revange... then don't cry.
• Facts

By Usmc Jake

My mom is a usfs biologist and my dad is heli logger. For every 1 dead or diseased tree cut down my mom and the usfs plant over 10 while aprox 9 survive over 50 years. Get you facts straight liberals and build a plastic house and write on soy paper
• Hurts to watch

By Madoka A

See lush, beautiful, unspoilt forests and then watch these bozos strip entire hillsides clear of any trees. Once the rain comes, you see massive amounts of erosion as there is no longer any plantlife to support the hills. And this show tries to glamorize this destruction as some sort of cash grab for the "green oil fields" of the northwest. Given the below average IQ of these guys, I'm surprised the death rate is only 20x the national average. Large chunks of the show are dedicated to them calling each other stupid for doing dangerous, careless things. Lastly, since there is no drama in an otherwise boring job, the show's producers to to introduce DRAMA by calling it a "race" and using race terminology whenever they can. This attempt to add DRAMA to the show is irrelevant, artificial, and idiotic.
• what you like

If you are wondering what logging is like, watch this show before you try it.
• My husband and I love this show!

By shawmama

This is a great show! Not only do you get to see what logger's go through to get the job done but it is entertaining! We love Duane (Doo-doo) and his son Dustin (Du-wop) and all the other guys. They really seem to love what they do (most of them anyway).

• toughest season

Not that exciting, it tells some about what they have to do on their job, however there is a lot of cussing and bad attitudes. Not enjoyable to watch.
• Logging Family

By JLSilvera

Logging is grueling and crazy business. My father-in-law was a logger as well his brother. But they worked back in the 20's - the 50's doing logging. Uncle John cut his fingers off in the saw mill, wrapped a rag around it and continue working and finishing his day out. He also lost his life trying to save the logging truck he was driving. They could hear him downshifting the gears as he was going along those winding coastal road in Mendocino county, California. They think the brakes on the truck went out, but he wasn't going to lose the truck and load if he could help it. But he went over the edge of one of the embankments. John and Archie were known a Buck and Pucky. They worked in Casper Lumber Mill which isn't there anymore. It burnt down. Logger are hard working people that are not appreciated, just like truckers. Thanks JLS

If it's SO "renewable" then why isn't the industry RENEWING it??? If it's so "renewable" then why is the industry glomming on old growth trees? If it's SO "renewable" then why can't they stick to their own renewing trees? All this is possible if the logging industry stuck to this plan, but they don't, they can't and they won't, because it's just more PROFITABLE for them to harvest pristine, old growth and the LAST of what they seek...MY TREES. LEAVE THEM ALONE!!! Glamorizing a show with masculine, butch, muscle-bound hunks is not just propaganda, it's sexing up the issue. "Here, look at me, I'm a real man, with other real men, in the forest and look at how dangerous, and interesting my life is?!" What a bunch of crap!
