1934. The Dustbowl. In a time of sandstorms, plagues, drought and pestilence—signs of God's fury and harbingers of the Apocalypse—the final conflict between good and evil is about to begin. HBO presents Season 1 of this sweeping drama series that focuses on a primordial conflict of good vs. evil that plays out against a pair of vivid and unusual backdrops: a traveling carnival working the American Dustbowl circuit, and an evangelical ministry in California. On one side is an 18-year-old fugitive named Ben Hawkins (Nick Stahl) who is taken on by the carnival and whose unexplainable spiritual powers jolt members of the troupe. On the other side is preacher Brother Justin (Clancy Brown) who is being visited by visions that demonstrate his own burgeoning powers. As Ben tries to understand his special gifts, and as Brother Justin maps out an ambitious future, the two men are set on a cataclysmic collision course that will ultimately decide the fate of mankind.

    But.......NO SEASON 3 THE HELL HBO just finished season two and i found my self yelling at my tv again and bring back DEADWOOD and wrap it up for a 4th season.

    Even though HBO cancelled the series after two seasons, this is still worth the viewing investment. Well written, acted and full of symbolism and metaphors that will keep you thinking long after you've finished watching it..

    I fell in love with this show. The production, acting, authenticity, and story are all great. The story does not move very fast but I was never bored because the world of this show is such a joy to visit and experience. This is sort of like an episode of the Twilight Zone that keeps on going. The slow pace and story might not be for everyone but it definately worked for me.

    Loved the show, I went ahead and watched it after it was cancelled and it got so good I didnt want to watch the last episode of season 2 cause I did not want it to end. And I am a big fan of Supernatural and if you like that show I think this one is a pretty satisfying adult HBO version. So bummed it didnt get to do it's planned 6 season run.

    This is a fantastic series. Unfortunately, the arc of the series was set to span six seasons. The arcs were divided into a trilogy with each "book" in the trilogy spanning two seasons. CountryRoad13 is correct with the show being cut short, but thankfully, we do get to have the entire first book brought to a close. Still worth it for the powerful storytelling, amazing acting and stunning imagery...

  • Bring it back pleeeeeeease

    Fabulous example of the duality of human nature and the power struggle between good and evil. The acting is phenomenal and the storyline had so many twists and turns that you are left salivating for season 3. Unfortunately, it was never made. Love the antihero, and Clancy Brown will forever be the best villain, even if he voices Mr Krabs on Spongebob.

    Why did hbo cancel this fabulous show ?? Some things just don't make sense... Carnivale has a huge fan base even years after its cancellation. Bring it back!!
