They are some the toughest, most extreme survivalists that Alaska has to offer. Going head to head, eight men of a rare breed are about to take the ultimate test of survival in Arctic conditions that only National Geographic could inspire. Dropped in the middle of the Alaskan wilderness by bush plane, with only their raw, mountain-man ingenuity, they’ll navigate through treacherous glaciated river valleys, barren ridgelines, and high mountain peaks, battling hunger, hostile predators, and perilous weather conditions along the way. Like the original National Geographic explorers, for those who succeed there is no grand prize, just the well-fought pride of having conquered the grueling challenges that Mother Nature can throw at them. It's an epic competition series where the only prize is survival.

This show ain't fake I know one of the guys on that show and that's Austin menelic, they do do that in 74 hours. But ya this is a amazing show I highly recommend it.
  • Great scenery and entertaining show

I really enjoy the challenges and seeing the different personalities at work in tackling the various legs of the journey. Most memorable characters - Willie, the two brothers, and Austin who proves you can still survive old-school with a bow and arrow. Very entertaining show and seems less 'produced' and 'scripted' than other shows in this genre.
  • I like it!

    By davensuelds2

Well, I must say I like the show. I have hiked all over the Olympic Mountain’s in the Northwest I live near Seattle, and I’ve been to Alaska twice. I like the show because it’s a nice video log of three differing ideas of how to travel from point A. to point B. and it has been a nice adventure for me to see other parts of Alaska. This week with the ten thousand smokes was really pretty awesome, and to see how an area can look safe enough to walk through until you find yourself knee high in ash and water was a wakeup call for me. The whole 72 hour thing is good otherwise each group could just meander along hunting, fishing, doing whatever, and show up two weeks later ready to go on to the next fully feed, and well slept. Anyway that is not a problem for me it keeps things moving forward. Great show, interesting people, I have to admit I was a little worried when 2 men fell out of their boat and into the river, I’ve had hyperthermia before, after just a 4 mile hike up a steep grade to Upper Lena Lake, on a beautiful cold drizzly, foggy day in the N.W., and getting dry and warm is the main priority. Any way I look forward to the show every Monday morning. Thanks

I am enjoying the series. I have lived in Alaska for 31 years and try to get out into the wild and backpack or fly in to a river to fish. I agree that the 72 hour timeline or else is rather ridiculous...I enjoy the rest of the show. I would love a final episode showing all the crew and cameramen (yes I'm being sexist...there could be a camerawomen, but in this scenario I doubt it) stuggling to get through these challenges. Also, the crews all ate quite well and had dry tents from what I've heard and the 8 had to help them along the way as well. Please consider showing an episode with the crew filming it all.
  • Motivating Scenery

    By Anna Kres

The sceneries shot in this documentary were unique. It is definitely an amazing documentary on how the shots were filmed in spite of the danger in the alps. It also featured the local in the mountains, It showed a glimpse of the daily act of survival of human beings. It is also very interesting to find that there are so many beautiful places in America that sustains life. It is motivating to investigate on how to make life safer and more healthy for the people out there. The water there is very clear and it promotes a healthier resource. Most of the areas are still segregated. Last thing I find interesting is the real life characters played by the real people in Alaska. I hope we can find more wisdom in these type of journeys. Someday I would like to join a hike in Alaska. I am serious about climbing and fighting for the ultimate survival myself.
  • So Disappointing - Just another Discovery Channel fight against the clock

    By MattChevalier

Dear National Geographic, please do not turn into Discovery Channel with fake timelines and false exploitations of danger. I had to shut this off after 15 minutes because I couldn't take it any longer. Remember who your audience is. You can't trick us. We know if they don't make it in 72 hours that you will not leave them there to die; that would be murder. Please show some respect for your viewers. I appreciate real and authentic content, delivered by industry experts and professionals. Despite what your Execs say, we don't want drama. Actually, we just don't want drama between idiots; two experts who both believe there way right based the facts, that kind of drama is ok. National Geographic, you are our last hope. Keep it real, Keep true. Keep the politics out. Believe it or not your audience is conservatives, The day you let liberals over run National Geographic with agendas, will be the day we all turn the channel. Thank you.
