Hostages is a thrilling and suspenseful new drama series about a family caught in the middle of a political conspiracy that will change their lives forever. Emmy® and Golden Globe winner Toni Collette (The United States of Tara) stars as Ellen Sanders, a top surgeon in Washington, D.C., who has been tapped to operate on the President of the United States … and then kill him. If she doesn’t comply, her husband (Tate Donovan – Argo) and kids, who are being held hostage, will be harmed. Ellen will do anything to protect her family, as will Duncan Carlisle (Golden Globe winner and Emmy® nominee Dylan McDermott – American Horror Story, The Practice), a righteous FBI agent who’s at the center of a conspiracy involving the President and will fight for his cause at any cost. As tensions mount, it becomes clear that the outwardly idyllic Sanders clan isn’t as perfect as once thought, nor are their captors as evil as one might suspect.

    one of the best new shows this season. the ending, though predictable was spot on :) i do hope for a second season, but i dont think it needs much more that.. sometimes just a couple of seasons is all a show needs to be considered great.. and i think this is one of them.

    Watched the first couple episodes because the story had potential, I stopped watching when the mum didn't bother to meet her kids or at least give the kids (standing a few yards from her) their passport to run away instead video called her husband to say thanks for his plan then went back to save him leaving her kids hanging. couldn't the producer find someone better to play president and what is this really about? The twists and turns are too many, unrelated and weren't well thought out. Sorry to be so mean, but I was disappointed after looking forward to a good show

    This show could be really good - great talent, good premise - and I want to like it. However, I cannot stand how clueless some of the lead characters are. The show is written so that one moment these characters are being smart and interesting, and then the next they are making choices that are so downright dumb a ten-year old would know better. It's like the petite girl in the horror flick that says: "I think I'm going to go into the woods alone to search for my friend." I want a show where I can root for the heroes, as flawed as they may be. I want writers to come up with intelligent traps for the heroes, rather than making them act dumb so that they can't overcome their situation. This show shouldn't be called Hostages, it should be called self-sabotage. Some things are soooo basic. Right now it's hard to empathize with any of the characters in this show. I hope the writers get it right. I still hope.
