Recovered missing episodes of Doctor Who, the world’s longest running sci-fi drama are being revealed and available to view and own for the first time in over 40 years. Ten Doctor Who episodes were discovered through the tracking records of shipments made by the BBC to Africa that contained tapes for transmission. A restoration team has re-mastered each episode from the original black and white 1960s film and subsequently gone through a frame by frame restoration to the fantastic quality that audiences expect from Doctor Who. The first recovered story is The Enemy of the World, the fourth tale of Series 5 which first aired on the BBC in December 1967. The story features Patrick Troughton as both the Second Doctor and his antagonist (Ramon Salamander), alongside companions Jamie (Frazer Hines) and Victoria (Deborah Watling). On Earth in the near future, the Doctor and his companions are enmeshed in a deadly web of intrigue thanks to his uncanny resemblance to would-be 21st century dictator Salamander. He is hailed as the ""shopkeeper of the world"" for his efforts to relieve global famine, but why do his rivals keep disappearing? How can he predict so many natural disasters? The Doctor must expose Salamander's schemes before he takes over the world.

Phenomenal Classic Story

Thank the great Philip Morris that we are all able to enjoy this long lost story, almost 50 years after it first aired. Patrick Troughton was brilliant. 6 parts fly right by because it's such a great story. Highly recommended!
It's Good For It To Be Back (especially for Episode Four)

As disappointed as I am about William Hartnell's double performance (As the First Doctor and a Monk) in "The Massacre of St. Barthlomew's Eve" missing (not a single visual frame survives, no telesnaps, no clips.), it's nice to see this Season Five Serial containing Patrick Troughton's double performance as the Second Doctor and Ramon Salamender recovered. When the news broke that Doctor Who episodes had been recovered, this was one of the serials that topped my non-Season 4 hopeful list. (Season Four does not have a complete serial, with "The Tenth Planet" being the most complete.) Even better, one of the recovered episodes, Episode 4 was one of the few episodes in which no telesnaps (something that usually plagued episodes of the First Doctor's Run) were taken. So the recovery was a real coup.

I read somewhere that the current Doctor, Matt Smith, was going through old episodes and found that he liked Troughton the best; watching this story, one can see the resemblances between the second and eleventh Doctors (and Troughton shows such versatility playing the Doctor AND the Salamander). Great all the way around.

Beautiful Restoration/Great Story

Wow, this looks and sounds terrific! I can't believe what a good job the restoration team did. I also can't believe that after all these years of wanting to see this I finally can. It's a faster paced story that fans who've only seen New Who can use as a jumping off point to get into the classic series. I can't wait to watch it over and over again with friends.
Great Restoration

The episodes look very good. Either they got really good prints of the episodes or the restoration team was fantastic. The story is good and the effects are on par with 60s television. Was not as impressed with Troughton's performance as Salamander. He was more consistant with the dialect when the Doctor was pretending to be the Salamander then when it was the actual Salamander.

This is a wonderful vehicle for Patrick Troughton in a dual role. No wonder Matt Smith and other actors are crazy about him! Also, some strong roles for women and a terrific story!

Great to finally see this story. Read the novelization growing up. There are moments of this story which totally reminded me of certain Philp K Dick motifs. Great stuff indeed.
