The people of Arcadia, Missouri are forever changed when deceased loved ones suddenly start to return. An 8-year-old American boy wakes up alone in a rice paddy in a rural Chinese province with no idea how he got there. Details start to emerge when the boy, who calls himself Jacob, recalls that his hometown is Arcadia, and an Immigration agent, J. Martin Bellamy, takes him there. The home he claims as his own is occupied by an elderly couple, Henry and Lucille Langston, who lost their son, Jacob, more than 30 years ago. Those closest to the family try to unravel this impossible mystery.

Viewer Reviews

  • really bad

    By p1bu

can't believe how bad this was. Got though 4 episodes on itunes. The last straw was the preacher's wife and others thinking it was just no big deal that people are coming back from the dead. The only people that seem to be freaked are the kid's parents. Such a poorly written crap show written for dummies.
  • Another interesting premise, weak writing

    By BobtheG

This is another show with a potentially interesting premise… a mystery about returning people from a town who have died violently. The mystery is intriguing and draws you in. The acting, while not stellar, is passable. In this case, the story arc of the mystery proceeds relatively slowly, and with a bit too much over-hyped drama. Lots of overdone "soulful" moments. As with many of these shows, however, the writing is really poor, and can't be rescued by the interesting premise or even stellar acting. It is trite and formulaic. Characters are flat and not well developed; in some cases they are caricatures that behave in extremely unrealistic ways to advance a plot line that has stalled. Even by the end of the season you don't feel particular connections to any of them. Love triangles pop up and vanish to add artificial tension without meaning. Supposedly capable characters are suddenly lobotomized in order to advance the plot. For those who enjoy intriguing mysteries of the sci-fi flavor, you'll be tempted to get sucked into this, but will be repeatedly let down as the writers botch internal consistency or just jump the shark repeatedly by the end of the season.
  • Love the series

    By Yours Truely, Me

I watched it on TV and loved it. Just hate a few characters, but that's part of the reason I love it so much.
  • Best Show Ever

  • The original is soo much better...

The returned is far more better and I would have prefered a follow up to the real version. Too bad!
  • Amazing Compositions

    By Anony99990

I LOVE this tv show, and not only does it have an incredible storyline, the music in the background of practically every moment is perfectly composed and really helps the story move along in just the right way. To be honest, I am almost looking forward to the soundtrack being released (if it even will be) more than I am looking forward to ABC renewing it for another season! (Credits to Blake Neely for these brilliant pieces of art for the ears)

  • Brilliant!!!

I can't say enough good things about this show and the amazing cast! Finally a show with some substance! Landon (who plays Jacob) is a wonderful actor! The entire cast is so believable. I love how the intriguing story line takes it's time to unravel. I was drawn in the moment I saw Jacob... and then his mother getting her son back after all these years. Makes me treasure my children even more. Thanks to the cast for some incredible acting!
  • Beautiful Series

    By Rino The Bouncer

It’s really good and it keeps you wondering about what’ll happen next and why it all happened in the first place. It doesn’t matter if it’s similar to the French series of a similar title, this series, on it’s own is a beautifully made piece that I hope they will continue with it rather than canceling it.
